Roy Baker – FCA
Roy trained with a medium sized practice in London and after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant joined a local practice and became a partner in 1984. In 1993 he and Andrew Watkin formed the current practice and moved to their Stevenage office in 1995.

Roy has been involved in a number of start-up positions of fledgling companies, assisting them in providing advice with regard to financial aspects of a company and working capital requirements. He focuses on providing a full range of services to sole trader, partnerships and corporate clients which includes tax planning. He has assisted clients who have started their business as a sole trader or partnership, but their business model or circumstances have changed, to consider whether a change to a corporate entity could be advantageous. Roy also has extensive knowledge of dealing with medical GP practices.

 Clients who have built up their businesses and wish to take advantage of the value they have created, have been helped in this process by Roy over the years he has been in practice.

 When he is not working he has always had an interest in DIY projects, which sometimes have taken longer than anticipated, travelling overseas and when traffic congestion permits driving, which encouraged him to become a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists in 1998.

Paul Craggs – FCA
Paul trained with a provincial firm of accountants in Luton, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985. He then joined Barber & Co, moving to the current practice with Roy Baker in 1993. Having developed and managed a portfolio consisting of a wide variety of clients, Paul became a partner in May 2006.

Paul has an extensive background in general practice, providing a full range of services to clients, covering all areas of accountancy and taxation advice. In particular, Paul has set up and managed the full accounting and finance function for UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies and is responsible for many of the firm’s audit clients.

He also specialises in advising and auditing charities and financial service companies. Paul can offer advice on suitable accounting software packages for clients and has been instrumental in setting up computerised systems and providing training for clients.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys hill walking, swimming and squash, although the latter has become much less frequent of late!  He also plays the organ and piano and has accompanied the Cantata Ladies Choir in Luton for several years.


David Loveless – FCA
David joined Barber & Co. in 1984 appointed as a Trainee Accountant by Roy Baker.  After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 he moved with Roy to the current practice of Baker Watkin in 1993 and to their Stevenage office in 1995.

David has gained extensive knowledge of many long standing clients as Assistant Manager and then Manager of Roy’s client portfolio.  Special interest has focussed around small growing limited companies and medical GP Practices.  He offers advice on all areas of accountancy, corporate tax compliance and tax planning.  In addition he has experience of setting up and maintaining full accounting functions for UK corporates and UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies.

For relaxation, David enjoys walking in the local countryside with regular hill walking holidays in his more strenuous moments.  He also enjoys listening to classical music, watching tennis and keeping abreast of current affairs.


Marie Griffin – ATT
Marie originates from the North East and has been working as a tax specialist since 1998. She qualified with one of the big 4 firms where she managed a large portfolio of owner managed businesses before joining Grant Thornton, focusing on high net worth compliance and tax planning before her office later merged with Baker Tilly.

In 2005 Marie relocated to Hertfordshire dividing her time managing the tax departments of the St Albans and London offices for a medium sized practice.

Marie joined Baker Watkin in 2008 providing a full range of tax advice for personal and corporate clients, including tax planning strategies to minimise personal, corporate and capital tax liabilities.

With 2 young children Marie has very little spare time away from the office but when family commitments allow she enjoys socialising with friends, gardening and adding to her extensive shoe and handbag collection.
